L.O.V.E.

What is "love"?
A proposition for sex? An excuse to snag a Tiffany-something? A whimsical urge to sound romantic? A political tool to garner support? To make one sound passionate?

Was reading a Yahoo article of a couple's triumph over adversity, differences, illness and loss of children a while ago and it set me thinking hard about love, marriage, motherhood and the whole idea of self-sacrifice.

Something's making me tear as I type this because it's a sad fact that everyday hearts are being broken for all sorts of reasons.

Some people take their spouse/family for granted while some others subject their partners to tyranny and mental abuse. There are people who use marriage to broker for better deals in life while others use their respective families to consolidate power. Worse, there are people who abandon their parents and those who cripple their partner's growth. Recently, a local teacher pleaded guilty to affair with a 14 year-old student while his wife was undergoing her 2nd pregnancy.

What has "love" become in this day really?

How many people can say "I love you" and mean it 24/7? How many people can say "I love you" with NO STRINGS ATTACHED?

I can and I'm consciously striving (struggling sometimes) to uphold as noble a definition of what I believe is "love" for my family and country.

Love should should not come with Terms and Conditions. Period. No Buts. When calculations, conceit and politics sail into a relationship, something wicked has found it's way in.

I am not a Romantic but I do believe that everyone has in them something spontaneous and genuine to share with a special someone, a dear pet, society etc.
