Home mumusings #79: Chinese 'aquadoodle' mat?

One of the best inventions that's fun, educational and cost-saving. A relative bought my son a Chinese calligraphy mat. Until I saw this, I though the Aquadoodle was the best thing to have been invented for kid's drawing and writing.

All you need is some water and a brush to start!
(Recycled milk dispenser = water container)

Simple, effective  and safe Chinese calligraphy mat
(Around 20cm x 30cm)

This mat absorbs water instantly - even a sneeze gets imprinted on it. Check this out.... "Accchhooooo!"

Bottom right corner - kid's sneeze

The prints/drawing fades completely after a few minutes as like the Aquadoodle, maybe slower, depending on the amount of water used.

Drawing a "scary bug", according to the artist

We added an Aquadoodle pen for easier control (for the kid). My son seems to enjoy the freedom of being able to add blobs and prints.

I'm having quite alot of fun playing with the Chinese brush too!

The grids will definitely come in useful when my son eventually learns to write:) Definitely beats having poster paints all around and a great way to perhaps get him started on Chinese characters. Monochrome but the kid's having lots of fun because he loves playing with water!

Where to get: HELP! I'd like to know too!
No idea, stationery shops in China and perhaps shops selling Chinese calligraphy paraphernalia in Chinatown (Singapore). Do let me know if you find this product in Singapore - would love to get a larger mat if they have!
